CASE STUDY

From uncertainty to confident action

Client: Lisa, AI Delivery Lead

The starting point

When Lisa began coaching with Elevative, she was navigating a period of professional uncertainty.

She felt frustrated and demotivated. She was questioning her progress, struggling to articulate what she was feeling and finding it difficult to identify what she wanted next. Professional opportunities that might once have felt manageable had started to feel overwhelming.

The surface question was:

“What do I want to do next?”

But the deeper challenge was learning to move forward without having all the answers.

The challenge

Lisa described feeling paralysed and increasingly disconnected from her professional direction. She compared herself with people she admired who seemed to be “in their element” and questioned whether she was doing enough.

The coaching focused less on finding a career answer and more on helping Lisa understand what was happening, challenge the assumptions behind it and develop practical ways to navigate uncertainty.

Together, the work focused on:

  • building self-awareness around patterns and assumptions
  • preparing for important professional conversations
  • communicating with greater clarity
understanding how different audiences think and respond
  • practising rather than waiting to feel ready
  • approaching networking and professional conversations with curiosity
creating space for her own development

The shift

Over eight coaching sessions, Lisa began to approach professional situations differently.

Instead of feeling that she needed to perform or have the right answer, she increasingly approached conversations from a place of curiosity.

As she put it:

“I’m gradually positioning myself from a place of curiosity rather than performing.”

Preparation became an important part of that shift.

Before meetings, Lisa began thinking about what she wanted to communicate, what she wanted the other person to take away, what she wanted to learn and how she could adapt her message to the audience.

She practised her communication repeatedly, used breathing and pauses to manage anxiety, and applied tools such as CCARL and Whole Brain Thinking to structure ideas and understand her audience.

What changed

The most significant change was not that Lisa suddenly had all the answers.

She became more comfortable not having them.

By the end of the engagement, she described her situation differently. Rather than seeing uncertainty as evidence that she was stuck, she understood that she was moving through a process.

That changed what she did next.

She began pursuing conversations, networking, preparing for interviews, exploring new possibilities and making space for continued development, while allowing herself to move at her own pace.

The shift was:

Paralysis → curiosity

Performance → preparation

Uncertainty → agency

Waiting for clarity → taking action

Results

Lisa reported feeling calmer and more confident in professional communication, with greater self-awareness and a stronger sense of possibility.

More importantly, she developed practical behaviours she could continue using beyond the coaching room:

  • preparing intentionally for important conversations
  • structuring and adapting her communication
  • asking better questions
thinking about the audience before communicating
  • practising until she felt more comfortable
  • seeking advice and support from others
  • taking action despite uncertainty

She also described discovering the value of asking other people for help and advice, recognising that people genuinely want to contribute and that professional conversations can create unexpected opportunities.

Our apprach

The coaching combined reflection with practical application.

Connect Reflect Reframe Practise Act

Lisa developed greater awareness of what was happening internally, reframed how she understood uncertainty and translated insight into practical action.

The result was not a prescribed career answer. It was greater capacity to navigate what came next.

Client Testimonial

"Coaching has been a transformative experience for me. I’ve learned to approach professional conversations with more curiosity rather than feeling like I need to perform. I’m much more intentional about preparing for meetings, understanding my audience and practising how I communicate. I’ve also learned that I don’t need to have all the answers right now. I’m going through a process, and I can keep moving forward while I figure things out. I feel calmer, more confident and more capable of navigating what comes next.”
